The ancient kingdom of Champa in the central coast of Vietnam existed from the end of the 2nd century to the 15th century. Due to the important position of the maritime Silk Road, Champa soon joined the cultural exchange process. and international trade. In this process, Champa culture has formed and developed on the basis of exchange, absorption and localization of Indian culture.
Hinduism was introduced to Champa very early. In the native country, Hinduism worships the “Trinity of Unity”, ie the three supreme gods: Brahma (God of Creation), Vishnu (God of Preservation) and Shiva (God of Destruction). However, over time, Hinduism has transformed and integrated into the indigenous culture of Champa residents, forming a religion dedicated to worshiping God Shiva, called Shiva religion. Lord Shiva is highly respected and worshiped by the Cham people. Sometimes, God is also identified with the Cham king. Therefore, the image of God Shiva is reflected boldly in the Champa culture, especially in the art of stone sculpture.
